WHAT IS BIM?
Building Information Modeling
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is more than a buzz word in the construction industry. It is a process that can generate benefits in the preconstruction, construction, and facilities maintenance phases of a building's lifecycle. It is the management of a digital representation of a construction project. It is a way to hold everyone involved in the process accountable for excellence and to promote teamwork and cooperation. It is the ultimate check and balance system for construction.
There can be varying levels of BIM implementation on a project. Clients can choose any single part of that digital representation, the entire process, or anything in between. A greater degree of BIM implementation will result in a greater benefit to the project by reducing design and field issues, addressing safety concerns, enabling smarter purchasing, allowing for organized delivery and waste reduction, facilitating prefabrication and increasing workflow efficiency.
